I recently learned of a subgenre called "Lo-Fi House" through this youtube channel called EELF. They combine great lo-fi house tunes with home-video from the 90s, and it just works really well.

Lo-Fi house is a subgenre of the very wide House genre, in which most tracks stick to pretty minimal content, produced with gear from the 80s and 90s, and recorded onto low-fidelity mediums. Tape saturation is very common for instance. The higher frequencies usually are suppressed quite a bit, which helps give it that low-fidelity feel.

I want to feature a few gems from that channel that regularly go back to, but first here's my own contribution to the subgenre; I hope you enjoy it.

Today's my cat Darcy's birthday, so I wrote her a heartfelt ambient piece, featuring her purring and sniffing.

Truth be told, I only realised it's her birthday after I finished the track, so it's just delightfully good timing.

The Midnight put on a remix contest for 4 of their best tracks, in an effort to keep everyone at home and creative.

I went ahead and made one of my favourite of theirs, "The Comeback Kid". Due to there being stems of their track in the remix, I can't post it on Newgrounds, but I'd like to share it anyway.

I didn't make it in their winning picks, but I'm still proud of the remix I came up with.

I've just uploaded a new track I've written for the "synthesizers, yo" Discord I frequent. They're doing a server album to promote everyone staying in during this COVID-19 pandemic and using their time creatively.

The album isn't quite out yet, but I'm publishing the track on its own.

I did a bit of jamming a few weeks ago and recorded the direct audio output, as well as video of me tweaking stuff. Enjoy!

More technical background info than you want:

The Korg Volca Beats (the little black box with blinky lights) is the drum machine at the center of this, which provides the timing for everything else. Its sync output is connected into the Arturia Keystep (the little white keyboard sitting on top of a larger one), making its arpeggiator synchronized with that drum machine. The Keystep then sends out MIDI data (notes to be played) to my DIY modular synthesizer on the right. With a cable from MIDI thru on there, the MIDI clock carries further synchronization pulses on to the mostly out of view Behringer Deepmind 6 in the top left, where I also tinker with an arpeggiator. The sound output of those three is combined with a Behringer Xenyx 1002 mixer, and recorded with a Zoom H2n recorder.

A bit more about the DIY modular synthesizer:

The modules in here are mainly based on circuits found on the internet (like on musicfromouterspace.com and birthofasynth.com), and some of the circuits are my own design. The circuit boards with all the components behind them are all designed by myself, most of them manufactured in cheap Chinese PCB plants, a few homemade. The front panels were also designed by me, and cut and engraved on a laser cutter at a makerspace. The enclosure is a modified IKEA "RAST" cabinet with some aluminum rails installed to mount the modules to.\
