Happyish, nice atmosphere

Okay, I promised to review the same day as I answered you review, but I must have been busy :p Anyway, here's your (delayed) review after all :p

Pretty dark intro here. Also some nice drumwork.
I'm not sure about the kick, it sounds like distorted, I know it isn't maybe it's just the sample. Then again I don't listen to a lot of techno, and after a while it seems to fit nicely with the song.

You add a lot of synths through the song, it sounds nice and happy after a while :)
I aslo noticed some acid sounds there, they give a nice touch.

It stops quite sudden in my opinion, maybe you can extend it a bit eventually?

I hope to hear more soon!

I guess I'll just quit only writing those...

long reviews. Otherwise I don't review at all just because I can't find the time to write such a long one.

Your dancy piano sounds nice once again, you build it up in a short time.
And then a nice deep bass, good job on that.
The melody sounds rather simple, but it's catchy/happy.

All the necessary filter effects and automations are there again, and you also did some nice things with the drumwork. For example letting that kick play a couple of times before it really kicks off again, that adds a nice touch.

I notice that you change the instrument that plays your melody a couple of times, that keeps it interesting.
Nice bell-like thingy's too volume on them is perfect at all time.

The melody stops quite abrubtly near the end (when the bells take it over).
Or maybe that's just me because I've been listening to quite a lot of trance lately, everything goes a lot smoother in trance :p

Anyway, this is worth a 10, and some 5's from me. You also gained a new download. Thanks for the dedication (2nd on that whole list ^.^)

Keep pumping out the tunes, I'll keep listening!

Kr1z responds:

-Glad you like the dancy piano dude :D
-Deep bass= win
-Simple but catchy tune = win =D
-Letting kick play couple of times befor the real kickoff = win
-Bell-like thingy = win
-Abrupt stop = win, being a dance track =O
-Thanks for the scores & the review!!

Good fun -> good song

It's very catchy in my opinion, and it actually does give a nostalgic feeling.
You did a good job creating something nice sounding through VG synths, most songs I hear using vg synths seem to be lacking in some way... No idea how to explain it any better.

Hell I think I'm even downloading it, it's still interesting after playing for like the fourth time :p

you earn: my 10, my 5, and my download.
Keep it up!

snayk responds:

:D Thanks!

Okay I'll take some time and be constructive.

I don't want to sound mean here. But I have no idea how to say it differently.
The mastering Sucks. Badly.
From the moment there comes in a low frequency it is distorted. I just don't have any idea why you didn't notice that yourself. I'm guessing you used a multiband compressor on your master channel. a compressor is a far too dramatic effect to use on you master channel. Only use that on indiviual channels.

Using a crowd in a song is a nice way to set some atmosphere, but don't overuse it. then it just sounds chaotic.

Structure was okay.
hmm sorry that's all I think.$

I suggest you to practice *a lot* on mastering, maybe buy yourself a nice pair of speakers/headphones and keep on adjusting knobs until it sounds perfect. Criticise yourself, and don't just say "whatever it's good enough"

I wish you good luck with future productions.

(oh and because it's my duty as a 5 team member, I still 5'd it, because there definitely is effort in this one.)

I'm not in the mood of writing a lengthy review...

It starts of like a usual in the burning series... that one pad with a piano.
I even think it's the same pad that you used in remotion (right?)

Then I hear a nice uplifter-y effect, I assumue you finally got some Vengeance samples?
I have to admit, I don't recognize each Vengeance sample like Karco does, but I'm just guessing it is one.

Then after that first uplifter, the typical Burning claps =D
And some more uplifter effects while a hard (can't find a better word to describe it) plays some chords.

Then a final uplifter and the song kicks off, the hard lead plays the same notes, and you added bass and a little 'melody' over it with a high synth..
Hmm you could've leveled that a tiny bit down maybe...

Then you break down by pushin everything through a HP filter and raising the cutoff (I love these terms) Then another effect, and we go back to pads + piano.

with a couple of snares a synth is lead in, nice automation of nexus' Commerse cutoff (I assume).

Then you kick off again with a new melody and that tiny one layered over. And agains some effects in between... Then you fade it out throught a HP again. Maybe a bit too easy to fade out a song with that, only my opinion though.

So... Very nice happy, euphoric dance track, like I'm used to in the burning series. It's nice to hear you've finally got Vengeance samples, but don't overuse them. You're lucky you can make good tracks in little time, but I still think your best tracks are those with loads of time and effort.

Anyway, keep it up!

-MICH

Kr1z responds:

Yeh its the same pad as remotion :D
There are no vengeance samples in this song :D the samples are from freesound.org ! :)
The pluck into saw lead is not the commerse preset. I created a filter on a normal saw that creates this pluck effect :)
I know the ending is short, thats why the song is called [short] ;D
I wont overuse vengeance, since i dont have any :3
THanks for teh rev :$

I suck at summaries :D

I don't have any criticism for you, only compliments.

I never played the game, or heard any songs of it,but whatever.

You used a lot of different instruments and layered them all nice. Lots of melodies going on, without getting chaotic, good job.

I like how you have classic styled parts but also dance-y parts, you mixed them up nice.

I think this track has potential to reach next weeks top5, though there may be other good songs to be submitted... who knows...

you deserve: my 5 and my 10.
(I should be a little harder on review scores, I give too many tens :p)

Keep it up,
greetings,

MICHhimself

NemesisTheory responds:

Hi!

You can check out the original on sites like youtube, it's 8bit stuff really but it's such an amazing melody that it feels nostalgic even if you didn't play the game.

(Ooh, before I forget: The original is called Bloody Tears and it's from Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest!)

Thanks, I love mixing styles in remixes, keeps things interesting. I wouldn't want a 7minute+ song to get stale, which honestly the original COT did IMO.

Thanks a ton for the 5 and 10, and don't worry about it! People love 10's XD

Thanks for the review!

Here you go =D

You start off with a nice effect and then you fade in your drums through a High pass filter, or at least the kick.
You've got some good effects there in the background.
The bass comes in smoothly, it's a nice bassline.
Once the bassline is started, some heavenly pads fade in.
You start building up a melody with a very simple yet good sounding synth. It sounds a little like a sine to me.
After a while it kicks off and the melody plays, in the background you hear the pads and some other synth progressing to something bigger.
You keep your melody very simple, while you play an amazing chordprogression in the background.

Then you break it down and I hear a nice synth that sound a little (don't shoot me if I'mm wrong) like a drum 'n bass lead.
Then you start up your pads again with a reversed cymbval with delay.
They play a nice chordprogression while getting louder. A melody fades in through a LP, it's has a nice trancegate (which you made yourself I assume, good job)

Then it kicks off, the bassline plays, a lot of pads, and your new trancegated melody.
you keep it interesting with a nice drum pattern and some changes it it.

After a while you add the simple sine synth again by just layering it over. it all fits nicely, you didn't create a chaos.

Then you break it all down with a nice wind effect, only the simple synth is there. Then you let me think it's the end of the song.
But... it kicks off again, everything is complete again. It plays a little longer and then you remove the pads, and later the melody.
It ends like a true trance song, drums and bass, and you add your nice effect to the end.

I liked the structure, not one complaint about it. The part were you let me think it's the end of the song was great in my opinion.
So enough about the structure...

Your drum patterns are amazing, you should teach me how to do that once.
Synths all sounded nice, not one I could recognize (but... my Nexus knowledge isn't thàt big.)
I like how you used such a simple sounding synth in such a complex song. btw... is it actually a sine? or is it mixed with a square?

That's about all I have to say about it. You deserve from me:
-a 10 star review rating
-a 5/5 vote (everyday)
-added to my favourites (at a stunning #2)
-download

Keep up your great work, don't let the haters bring you down, just do what you do best, make music.
(You know you want great reviews :p)

Anyway, nuff said, I'm out

Kr1z responds:

Bassline nice? yep, new pattern eh, thx :)
Heavenly pads? Thanks :D
A melody with a very simple yet good sounding synth ==> Thats made in Z3ta+, WOOT lol ^^
Trancegate: made myself, indeed! :D
"You didn't create a chaos" ==> yeh thanks :D alot is going on but i succeeded to master it clearly.
"let me think it's the end of the song." Yeh that was my intention, and then the full beat & bass kicks in again :D:D! Glad that worked out well :)
"Structure ok" ==> Yeh, i worked long on this structure, im glad this succeeded.
Drums arent so complex, its important to have the right samples, and EQ the right way.
Thx for the good ratings, the fav & the dl!!!
Haters cant bring me down ;)
I'm out
-Kr1z

I don't have words for this.

But I'll try my best.

I surely do understand.
I'm just amazed how you were able to find all the right notes to describe thàt feeling so justly.
You can feel the sadness dripping of this track. You, my man, are a true artist. You know how to put all the feelings you get in a song. And you manage to make other people share your feelings.

This is on my mp3. I must admit I almost got tears in my eyes this morning on the train by listening to this beauty.

This person will live on in heaven and you will finally meet him/her again, that's what I can tell you.

I salute you.

Mrmilkcarton responds:

I've been told its hard to put emotion into a Trance song because their are less velocity changes but sometimes things work out.

Good work!

Nice mixture of styles!
You stay in the same theme/melody, but you constantly change the style.
I think that's very nicely done.
It's very nice when you go deep at 1:25, I like that very much.

Now why I didn't give you the full 10...
Those drum sounds could have been a little more polished. :D

I'd just say: keep it up and keep improving! (like you are)
5/9

Greets,
MICHhimself

mjattie responds:

polished?? please explain me that :P

tx for comment

who's going to win?...

Kr1z is!
I've made a start of it, but I stopped working on it 'cause I totally didn't like working on it.
I think everyone is going ambient on this, you're original with this trance one.

I think you make 90% chance of winning this on!

Good luck!
