Very interesting sound about this one

I should review more. I think this is the first time I review you, right?

I'm amazed about what you managed to do with recorded sounds from things you'd never think of to record. And you made a pretty idm track with that.

May I ask how much your microphone costs? (I only have a crappy webcam mic)

Anyway, the piano brought in a nice atmosphere, long sustained notes give a really nice touch.

Not much else I can say, pro mastering, everything sounded very clear and bright.
You have a lot of talent and are VERY creative.
Keep up the good work.

Quarl responds:

lol. The microphone came free with my mac book. It's built into the computer. It actually does a really good job at recording simple sounds. Also, I don't think i've ever seen a review from you, but thanks for it. You really know how to make a girl feel good about herself.

Non-generic, original, interesting.

I must say you must've had quite a bit of inspiration to pull this one of, mister Greg.

The song keeps on changing, stays interesting.
It starts off with some low passed drums, breakbeat-ish, and you keep on adding more and more to the mix. The more or less raw bass is slightly annoying at first, but when there's some more around it, it fits in nicely. Maybe you could've put a minor Low pass filter on there (cutoff just around 75% or so).

The break comes in smoothly, some 'basic', rather... 'simple' sounding synths play, and a nice bassy pad comes in. Really nice atmosphere.

Even though there's no real climax like stated yourself, it stays interesting.
I'm trying to figure out which genre would fit best for this song, though you made it so original that I fail. Nav would definitely find a genre though (lol).

Anyway, what else can I say... aha. At 4:34 a supersaw reaches its full cutoff. I think you could've added a very light flanger or perhaps ah chorus effect on there, right now it sounds a little bit raw. Or nevermind that, I was just looking for something to critise =P.

Mastering and mixing is overall great. So yeah, top class song for me.

Hope to hear more soon!

gregaaron89 responds:

Thanks for teh quality review ;D

I did have a lot of inspiration from loads of stuff lol, a lot of stuff here is directly inspired by certain songs (spanning different genres, I guess that's why it sounds pretty original)

I kind of thought the same thing about the bass, but since there's lots of low end in it it's actually a lot better on speakers, sounds damn nice :o I have a lot of trouble with basses sometimes but I surprised myself with this one :)

I think with the supersaw the problem is it doesn't sound stereo or full enough. So yeah chorus might help, thanks for the suggestion.

And yeah overall I was going for a more minimal feel so I kept the synths pretty simple and stuff, glad you liked it!

Very nice atmposphere here.

You are really good with piano. I like the little envelope spikes in your piano btw (was that intended?)

ANYWAY

It starts of quite dark. Some glitched drums come in, very neatly done.
You really made it progress in a beautiful way.
When the track gets over the half, it has quite some energy, and it doesn't seem all too relaxing. But it certainly gives off a soothing feeling... if that makes sense.
Not much else I can say... You have found your style in my opinion.
Keep up the good work :)
(Also, I made a little electroacoustic piece today, it's more or less fucked up and weird, I'd appreciate it if you could give it a listen :))

mjattie responds:

hey man, I don't know what envelope spikes are, but I think they were intended...

Thanks. I personally think this song is relaxing though... And I'll give you a listen ;)

Nice 'n catchy

Very catchy take on this classic by PPK :)
It kinda has a bit of a handsup feel to it, which is nice

The bass was good, a nice handsupish bass ofcourse, though it sounded a bit raw.

Watch out with that vocal clip, it's been used quite a lot, but as long as you integrate it nicely that's a good thing :)

anyway, keep it up!
(and hopefully we'll see you with DJ status soon on RG :p)

NeonProject responds:

Yeeeeey!
Yeah, I kinda felt weary with that vocal, but it just rocks too much!
I should seriously EQ that bass or something. ><

Thanks for stopping by to review. :3

I'll be honest...

When I read your author comments, I already thought 'oh no'.
'It didn't take long', and 'i made it with mostly preset sounds from fl studio'
There's the major problem.

1) Take your time to make music, and you'll see you can create far better pieces.
2) Be original and try tweaking knobs on the FL synthesizers, so you can create your own sounds. Also, better not use those stock FL samples (the drums) but Get yourself some better samples than that, for example at vipzone-samples.com
Or you layer some FL samples, and try to make them sound original with effects.

I think you didn't use any effects at all now to be honest. You should check out the mixer in Fl studio, and play around with effects a bit, look up some tutorials on youtube or so. And yet again, don't be afraid to tweak ever knob you can find, and discover what you can do with FL studio.

Now for the song itself.
If you want to make trance, listen to a lot of professional trance, it gives you more of an idea of the strcuture of a trance song. Try making buildups, breakdowns, climaxes and all, this song rather goes on and on and has random sounding notes to me.

I hope this review is a bit helpful for you, That's the only purpose I wrote it for. My previous review I wrote was also meant to help the artist, but instead he started flaming me :p So you know, I only want to help you :)

Good luck in the future!

Box-Killa responds:

cool thanks dood that was very knowledgable

Noice =O

Good to see you know it isn't that easy :p lot's of people think it's just dragging sounds on your pc... silly peoples.

I see you're revising all your old songs completely now :p
And the result is very nice to say the least.

I won't dive into the structure now, I'll just point out some things I liked or disliked ^^

I must say, I can hear the Darude and Above&Beyond aspects here and there, good job. Lots of things going on, though all mixed greatly.
Percussions are as always extremely good.

Pads =O Very nice sounding, nice buildup and all :)

Well yeah, overall it sounded really professional to me, with that nice touch of yours, making it a bit tribal trance-ish :)
Structure was all a big thumbs up, I don't know, I don't have criticism XD.
Your synths didn't sound recognizeable at all to me, which is also really good.

Myeah, keep it up and such :D And excuse me for the horribly structured review :$

-Mich (oh and thanks for the plug :p)

ZooSafari responds:

Haha np bro, thank you very much for the awesome review, I really like it ^^

Great!

First of all: Great idea!
There's way too little hardstyle on NG, so that's a good think already.
Nice song picks, and you really did a nice job on mixing them in, all HQ :)

Your mastering, it all sounded very nice.

I think it's a good thing that you kept using the same synths, since otherwise it'd just sound like a bunch of separate songs. But now it actually sounds like one song, with a lot of variety.

Good job! (Can you remind me when the next one comes out? :p)

Z-Tone responds:

haha all of those things you said where going through my head while i was making this:D
and sure ill let you know man

Great once again :)

Like always, you did a very nice job!
You're amazing with piano, and those pads in the background there in in the intro where nice too.
Those strings are beautiful.
In some ay you manage to let that inro kick right into a harder main part.
That bass is very nicely made, though I'd watch out a bit with letting it pan like that. It gives a nice touch, but generally bass should be centered, to get the full effect of it.

Good drumwork too, I'm mostly not that good in varying my drums.

Overall a very nice song, keep it up! And if you have the time, you might want to check out my Lethal industry remix, though I'm not that proud of it..

5/5, 10/10
-Mich

mjattie responds:

Yea, the bass is a bit random and it should be centered but I like it this way ^^

I'll check yours out, later ;)

Good job!

This is actually live piano since you played it yourself. I must say you're quite talented (I envy your piano playing skill, let alone the piano composing).

I certainly feel love in the song, though not really in the way I like it. I mean, the title fits it greatly 'Is this true love?' You feel that burning question through the whole song, the person looking in the eyes of his/her beloved one isn't really sure if it's true love, so that makes it a bit sad. Actually I hope there will be a follow-up to this, also pure piano, where the subject knows it IS true love, so all happy.
Anyway, enough drifting off :p Great work, you're very good for being so young!

Keep it up, and yeah good luck with the MAC :)

-Mich

Zero123Music responds:

yeah lol :p

I don't actually think it fits the MAC9 anymore :( - cause as you said, it's that burning question.
Not really the lols after you find someone you love (valoltines :D)

Thank you very much mich :)
and sorry for the double PM on myspace xD

Great Job!

First of all: Amazing use of those stock samples!
I'm getting aware of the power of 3xOsc myself too, since I've been playing with it a lot. Yet it's still amazing what you did with it.

I never actually used FL Keys myself, but I guess I should, just to see if I can make it sound just as high quality as you did. Probably that's possible with the right EQ, maximizer and all. Well yeah, it ias possible, you just proved it.

Aaaanyway, the mastering is as always pro, and you made a nice structure, with some great effects I would never even think of making. The overall product is a sweet sounding remix, which I'm going to download right now.

lol, I might as well try to be constructive too. Something you could have done to give your kick just a bit more punch is layer it with a snaredrum, but filter the snare that way you don't hear it is one. This just to give your kick that bit high frequency, for that extra punch... if that makes sence :p

So yeah, keep up the great work!
-MICH

Kazmo responds:

Thank you. Ya, 3xOsc is very powerful/versatile, and doesn't eat up a lot of CPU usage.

Hahha, I loved the sentence you had going there about if it's possible to make FL Keys sound like this. :P Glad you think it sounded really good.

Yay, unexpected effects! :P Yay, download! :D

LoL, with the kick, I actually got rid of the highs, I don't really know why, but I just remember sticking a gradual high cut on band 7 and moving it to about band 5... XD I like the snare idea though, I'll look into it!!!

Thanks for the awesome review and support!!! :]
